What to watch on TV tonight: Monday
Every lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.
Holding Out For A Hero (RTÉ 2, 9pm)
In Holding Out For A Hero, comedian Neil Delamere explores the origin stories of some of Ireland’s heroes and heroines, both fabled and real-life. In tonight’s episode, he examines the stories of Cúchulainn, Granuaile, St Patrick and Red Hugh O’Donnell. The show is comprised of sketches, stand-up and interviews with people who know a little something about what they’re talking about. Delamere even simulates childbirth at one point, so there’s that.
Brendan Behan – The Roaring Boy (RTÉ 1, 9.30pm)
Speaking of mythical figures, Brendan Behan may be among the most mythologised personalities in recent Irish history. In this documentary, Adrian Dunbar seeks to separate the man from the legend and visits a number of cities in which Behan resided at one point or another. Jim Sheridan and Kathy Burke are on hand to give insights, too.
Blue Valentine (TG4, 9pm)
Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star in this powerful relationship drama, which earned Williams an Oscar nomination in 2011. Warning: pretty grim in places.
Everyone’s talking about… The Golden Globes promo
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back to host the awards show for the third consecutive year. The first promo has been released and features the comedy twosome exchanging banter over who they will wear. Regardless of what they do wear, they “expect to fall”.
We can’t wait.
The 72nd Annual Golden Globes Awards takes place on Sunday January 11th. Nominations will be announced on December 11th.
